A chain of bank accounts of Consul Alfred Agbesi Woyome the Financial Engineer and the Chairman of the NDC Heros Fund, has been frozen by the government. Intelligent reports picked up by the News Team of Happy Fm have it that the National Security Coordinator, Colonel Rtd Gbevelo Lartey on the instructions of President Mills, placed the letter of restriction on the accounts.
President Mills has personally protested against the circumstances surrounding the refusal of government not putting up a defence team as far as Mr. Woyome’s claims are concerned.
Mr. Woyome, Ghana’s one time consulate to Austria, hauled the government of Ghana to court on an allegation that the then President Kufour’s regime illegally terminated his contract on the construction of some stadia for the country for the CAN2008 football tournament.
He sued the government for the illegal termination of his contract and thus sought for compensation on his expenses and some commitments made in the sourcing of loans from the international market for the project.
The court subsequently ruled in his favour, awarding for the payment of a compensation to be done in tranches with a seventeen million Ghana cedis affront payment to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome pending a final determination of the case. But this, the then Attorney General now Minister of Education Betty Iddrisu, thought it was not prudent for the state to put up a defence team on the case and went ahead to pay Mr. Woyome the NDC bank roller, fifty eight million Ghana cedis contrary to the court ruling of seventeen million Ghana cedis.
President Mills upon getting wind of the allegations quickly tasked the Economic and Organize crime Unit(EOCO) to investigate the mystery surrounding the whole saga, hence, the immediate freezing of Mr. Woyome's accounts by the National Security.
However,in an interview with Lawyer Koka, one of the Counsels for Mr. Woyome by Happy News' Kwesi Sarpong, the former disclosed that contrary to the report carried by Happy fm,the accounts of his client, Woyome, was to the best of his knowledge frozen by the Economic and Organize crime Unit (EOCO) and not the National Security |
